Mary Kay Microdermabrasion Set Review #1

“A gentle alternative in comparison to microdermabrasion devices!”

When it comes to Mary Kay, I’ve known it to be a high-class skin care supplier which sadly also means that most of these products are more expensive or rather in the upscale price segment that I can’t afford on a regular basis.

I did ask for the Mary Kay TimeWise Microdermabrasion Set for my birthday and luckily also got it then, which I came to realise is a wonderful way to get a hold of something that you normally wouldn’t splurge on. 😉

The concept of Microdermabrasion

Since I do assume that my skin blemishes come from excess skin particles which build a good base for those impurities, I did quite some extensive research on microdermabrasion and because of the information that I found, I came to the conclusion that this method might fit my skin type quite well. So, let’s get rid of those extra particles!

I do have to mention here, that I thought microdermabrasion would be way different – cosmeticians or beauticians usually use a microderm device which is small and looks like a “polishing pencil” (for instance this device). It is so fine that it gathers even the smallest skin particles.

Even though one of my friends swears by this method using the device, I can’t imagine exposing my delicate and sensitive skin to that, which is why I decided for the Mary Kay TimeWise Microdermabrasion Set.

Composition and application of the Mary Kay TimeWise Microdermabrasion Set

If I had to describe what this set is, I would say it is a combination of a peeling and a nourishing cream, which is used to sooth and smooth the skin after the peeling.

Therefore we have two containers which the Mary Kay TimeWise Microdermabrasion Set comes in. The first one of the two is labelled “refine” and the second one “replenish”. Essentially it is nothing more or less than I described before – a peeling and a nourishing cream.

So when it comes to the application, it’s fairly easy to use the Mary Kay TimeWise: You just apply the peeling first, which contains tiny, hard crystals that “polish” the microscopic small layers of skin.

Effects of the Microdermabrasion Set

I’ve tried other peelings before but in comparison to those the TimeWise is very gentle as much as it is effective. After the application (the peeling is washed off with water by the way) you can immediately feel that your skin has been mechanically cleaned and smoothed.

As for the second step in the treatment which is the serum that contains vitamins, it is applied onto your facial skin, so it can be calmed and soothed. This serum also has a cooling effect on your skin – which perfectly makes sense – because after the peeling your facial skin looks red and rather irritated a bit (at least in my experience).

Through my experience I learned that I can really use this Mary Kay TimeWise Microdermabrasion Set without any problems even though I have sensitive skin. It is really essential though that your skin has enough time to regenerate itself after the application which is why I don’t use the TimeWise Set more than 2-3 times a week.

There are quite a few effects that you can observe after regular use of the set: Your skin looks smoother and finer, the pores narrow because of the microdermabrasion effect which also means that it’s even useful to fight clogged pores.

My skin impurities have decreased visibly after the TimeWise application, which – if I am honest – I haven’t been able to achieve with any other skin care product yet.

My Conclusion

As both components of this skin care set are well-matched, I think it’s only an advantage of the set and especially the peeling has impressed me quite a bit because of how fine it is.

Since it is a great alternative to the usual electric microdermabrasion devices, I do have to see how I can manage to find a proper low-priced replenishment for this high-class skin care set. All in all I can only recommend it despite the high price it has.

P.S.: A tip for you: If you do want to save a bit of money, you can always swap out the nourishing serum in the Mary Kay Microdermabrasion Set for this lower priced nourishing cream for example. It also did quite a good job to soothe and regenerate my skin after the peeling.
